Keely Briggs Pays It Forward & LIVES UNITED!

City Councilwoman Keely Briggs runs unopposed for District 2 in the City of Denton. She also sits on the Denton County Homelessness Leadership Team and shares our passion for finding solutions to make homelessness in our community rare, brief and nonrecurring. So, when Denton Fire Fighters Association Local 1291 endorsed her campaign with check in hand, Keely paid that donation forward to the Denton County Homelessness Barriers Fund to remove barriers for neighbors in crisis to keep or find stable housing. Thanks Councilwoman Briggs for demonstrating what it means to LIVE UNITED for Denton County!

Veteran Outreach A Priority As Veteran Center Celebrates Two Years

The Denton County Veteran Center had much to celebrate at its two-year anniversary this month. We hired Jessica Caskey as Veteran Outreach Coordinator to raise awareness across the county of the resources available at the Veteran Center. Those resources increased with the addition of two new partners, Recovery Resource Council and the Tarrant Area Food Bank, to offer peer support for substance use and help Veterans enroll in SNAP benefits, respectively.

Homelessness Highlighted at Thin Line Festival

We joined the conversation at the Thin Line Festival as Community Partner for the feature film documentary Community First: A Home for the Homeless. Following the screening, our own Nina Austin moderated a Q&A with the film’s director Layton Blaylock, City of Denton Community Development Manager Dani Shaw (pictured) and our Director of Homelessness Initiatives Courtney Cross to discuss local solutions to homelessness in our community.
