Position Title: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site Coordinator
Reports to: Economic Mobility Initiatives Manager, United Way of Denton County
Status: Part-Time – Temporary, Grant-funded (Through April 15, 2026)
Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program files federal income tax returns free of charge for low-to-moderate income households. The VITA Site Coordinator is responsible for the smooth day-to-day operation of assigned VITA sites across Denton County during tax season. Serving as the contact for assigned sites and acting as the direct supervisor to valued volunteers, the Site Coordinator’s duties include site operation, volunteer management, taxpayer relations, record-keeping, and tax return submission.
- With training from United Way of Denton County staff, pass IRS-certification exams to qualify in a timely manner for Advanced, Site Coordinator, and Foreign Student certifications
- Communicate with, organize, support, and recognize VITA volunteers
- Adhere to and communicate program policies and procedures to volunteers
- Ensure that VITA volunteers adhere to the six (6) IRS volunteer standards of conduct
- Ensure that assigned VITA sites meet all ten (10) IRS quality site requirements, are adequately supplied, are adequately staffed by volunteers, and open as scheduled
- Ensure that an on-site quality review process is in place using the return preparation source documents and that all return notes are properly documented
- Electronically file all completed returns in a timely manner, review acknowledgements, and resolve any e-file rejects in a timely manner
- Assist volunteers in the preparation of taxpayer’s returns on an as-needed basis
- Compile data and maintain grant-related records and statistics for VITA sites
- Collaborate with other VITA Site Coordinators, the VITA Program Coordinator, and the Programs Manager to address all complications or barriers to the operation of VITA sites as they arise
- Collaborate with the VITA Program Coordinator, Programs Manager, and other United Way of Denton County staff to plan, organize, supervise, and promote Economic Mobility services
- Performs other related duties as needed or assigned
- Dependability with flexibility to work weekday evenings and Saturdays
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to facilitate training and VITA sites county-wide
- Prefer ability to speak a second language, especially Spanish
- Demonstrated knowledge of or a strong desire and aptitude to learn tax preparation including the completion of Form 1040 and all associated schedules and forms required
- Ability to complete all training and certification requirements in a timely manner
- Strong organizational, time management and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office365 Suite and Google Sheets
- Prefer education or experience in accounting, social work, non-profit, and / or volunteer management
- Prefer experience working with a diverse population, including low-income families
- Prefer working knowledge of TaxSlayer tax preparation software

Position Title: Digital Marketing Specialist
Reports to: Director of Marketing & Communications
Status: Part-Time – Exempt, 20 hours/week
Location: Hybrid or In-person
The Digital Marketing Specialist plays a key role in advancing the organization’s mission by expanding awareness, deepening community engagement, and inspiring action through digital channels like Google Ads, social media, and digital advertising. This position focuses on using targeted digital strategies to help the community understand who United Way is, what we do, and why our work matters—positioning the organization as a trusted leader and subject-matter expert on the issues impacting local families and individuals.
Working closely with the Marketing Director, the Digital Marketing Specialist executes targeted digital campaigns that elevate United Way’s impact, connect people to resources, and inspire involvement through giving, volunteering, advocacy, and partnership.
This position is well suited for an experienced marketing professional seeking meaningful, flexible work while contributing skills toward measurable community impact.
- Design and execute digital marketing campaigns to increase community awareness, participation, and support
- Manage and optimize our Google Ad grant to reach targeted audiences searching for information, services, and ways to get involved
- Build and deploy Feathr campaigns to support awareness initiatives, events, fundraising, and engagement
- Create, schedule, and publish mission-centered content across social media and digital platforms that reinforces United Way’s role as a trusted community leader and connector
- Support website updates, landing pages, and optimization, especially for AI-enabled search engines (GEO/AIEO) to improve performance and user experience
- Monitor digital performance metrics (reach, engagement, conversions) and provide insights to inform future campaigns and strategies
- Collaborate with internal teams to translate programs, data, and community outcomes into accessible, audience-centered digital messaging
- Ensure digital content reflects United Way values, brand standards, and accessibility best practices
- Stay informed on digital marketing trends and tools relevant to nonprofits, awareness-building, and cause-based engagement
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred
- 3+ years of professional experience in marketing, digital communications, or related roles
- Experience managing Google Ads and digital advertising platforms; familiarity with Feathr or similar tools strongly preferred
- Strong writing and messaging skills with the ability to communicate impact clearly and authentically
- Comfort using data, SEO, and performance metrics to improve awareness and engagement efforts
- Highly organized and dependable, with the ability to manage priorities within a part-time schedule
- Self-directed professional who works well independently while collaborating with a mission-driven team
- Nonprofit, advocacy, or community-based marketing experience a plus

Position Title: Grant Writer
Reports to: Chief Programs Officer
Status: Part-Time – Exempt | Compensation based on experience up to $29.80 per hour up to 20 hours per week. Must be able to work a flexible schedule with seasonally frequent early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends
United Way of Denton County (UWDC) is a high energy, fast-paced, thriving organization mobilizing people and community resources to create opportunities for all of Denton County to thrive. This exciting work has been made possible by our dedicated UWDC staff team including our part-time Grant Writer. This position on the UWDC team increases our capacity to impact lives across Denton County by generating diverse revenue streams that complement our traditional United Way workplace campaign fundraising model.
This Grant Writer position, under the direction of the Chief Programs Officer, is responsible for researching, prospecting, and developing grant proposals in partnership with UWDC staff and community leaders that will enable UWDC to significantly expand and diversify revenue for collective impact backbone support and program services across Denton County. Denton County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the U.S. with a growing ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) household population which creates an immediate need for nonprofit sector program service growth and services delivery infrastructure improvements.
- Research and identify grant funding opportunities for UWDC.
- Partner with key UWDC staff to develop strategies to expand UWDC grant revenue opportunities.
- Develop grant proposals to successfully achieve revenue diversification objectives.
- Achieve annual revenue goals for grant development including securing funds for collective impact backbone support and program services.
- Maintain accurate and detailed grant funder and fundraising information in Andar and other UWDC systems.
- Cultivate and manage foundation relationships to generate grant proposal opportunities for UWDC.
- Manage the development and timely submission of all letters of interest, grant proposals and grant reports, independently and in collaboration with UWDC staff.
- Manage the renewal process for existing grants, including maintaining an accurate renewals calendar and liaising with grant funder staff.
- Provide research on new prospects and develop appropriate strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
- Organize compelling funder updates and coordinate the participation of program staff in other funder events, such as affinity group meetings.
- Provide task and management support to UWDC fundraisers.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in the organization’s grants database on prospective and awarded grants.
- Participate in UWDC collective impact leadership team meetings (mental health, housing & homelessness, and workforce success) to better understand collaborative grant proposal opportunities.
- Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, and coordination as needed.
- Increase overall funds and diversification of funds raised through grant writing.
- Demonstrated fundraising knowledge and experience through grant research and proposal development for local, state, federal and foundation sectors grant proposals, preferred.
- Experience working collaboratively to develop grant proposals for teams and coordinated collective impact multifaceted projects, required.
- Experience developing grant proposals for nonprofit programs and services, preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including superior writing, copy editing and proofreading ability, required.
- High level of independent working ability and initiative, and ability to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure using meticulous organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects, and follow through on detail with high-level accuracy, required.
- Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office tools, required.
- Flexibility to work well in a fast-paced environment, required.
- Familiarity with donor database software, Andar360 for example, a plus.
- Proven ability to raise funds working collaboratively with cross-sector teams comprised of staff and community leaders, preferred.
- Ability to take initiative and be creative in thinking and solutions generation, desired.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree required.
- Four to seven years of experience in nonprofit grant research and development, fundraising, or related experience.
- Position based in UWDC’s Denton office with some remote working available upon approval.
- Candidate must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, provide proof of insurance, own a mobile phone and be able to travel throughout North Texas as required to fulfill the duties of the position.
- Must pass criminal history background check upon request.
- Physical health & mobility are needed to perform the responsibilities of the position. Activities such as bending, lifting, stooping, squatting are frequently required to perform duties, including but not limited to, lifting or moving up to 30lbs.
