Position: Resource Development

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Status: Full time – Exempt | Must be able to work a flexible schedule with seasonally frequent early mornings, evenings and weekend work

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Development position, under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, is responsible for researching, prospecting, building a pipeline of potential partners, contacting and securing employee giving campaigns, corporate sponsorships and individual gifts. They also facilitate existing donor engagement, recognition, retention and appreciation. The Development position will also participate in UWDC fundraising activities including: employee giving campaigns, county-wide partnership development, and long-range strategic planning for the securing of financial resources. The Development position will be responsible for setting and achieving account portfolio goals.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  • Accountable for maintaining timely, accurate and up-to-date documentation for all UWDC business
  • Achieve annual revenue goals for account portfolio including specific metrics within UWDC
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to successfully deploy your time and UWDC resources/volunteer time as related to revenue objectives
  • Maintain accurate and detailed donor and account records in Andar to analyze the effectiveness of the plan against delivering objectives
  • Organize relationship management and donor responsibilities efficiently and effectively
  • Participate as a member of the staff team in regular departmental and inter-departmental activities

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated fundraising/sales experience with success in securing new donors and partnerships
  • Proven ability to raise funds working collaboratively with teams of high-level volunteers, board members, committees and C-suite level leaders
  • Effective oral, written and listening communications skills with an ability to relate with a diverse group of individuals and organizations in an effective manner
  • Ability to function strategically with proven, strong ability to execute on a fundraising plan in a timely basis

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Two to five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, account management and/or sales experience or other relative experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, provide proof of insurance, own a mobile phone and be able to travel throughout Denton County as required to fulfill the duties of the position
  • Must pass criminal history background check
  • Good physical health & sufficient physical mobility to perform assigned tasks. Activities such as bending, lifting, stooping, squatting, etc., are frequent to perform duties; including but not limited to lifting or moving up to 30lbs.

Position: Grants Manager

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Status: Part-time – Exempt | Compensation based on experience. Must be able to work a flexible schedule with seasonally frequent early mornings, evenings and/or weekends.

ORGANIZATIONAL & POSITION OVERVIEW

United Way of Denton County (UWDC) is a high energy, fast-paced, thriving organization mobilizing people and community resources to create opportunities for all of Denton County to thrive. This exciting work has been made possible by our dedicated Resource Development team that we are expanding with the addition of a new part-time Grants Manager. This new position on the UWDC team will increase our capacity to help more people in need across Denton County by generating diverse revenue streams that will complement our annual United Way workplace campaign fundraising model.

This Grants Manager position, under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for researching, prospecting, and developing grant proposals in partnership with UWDC staff and community leaders that will enable UWDC to significantly expand and diversify revenue for collective impact backbone support and program services across Denton County. Denton County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the U.S. which creates an immediate need for nonprofit sector infrastructure improvement and program services growth.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  • Research and identify grant funding opportunities for UWDC.
  • Partner with key UWDC staff to develop strategies to expand UWDC grant revenue 
    opportunities.
  • Develop grant proposals to successfully achieve revenue diversification objectives.
  • Achieve annual revenue goals for grant development including securing funds for 
    collective impact backbone support and program services.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed grant funder and fundraising information in Andar and other UWDC systems.
  • Cultivate and manage foundation relationships to generate grant proposal opportunities for UWDC.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage the writing and timely submission of all letters of interest, grant proposals and grant reports, independently and in collaboration with UWDC staff.
  • Manage the renewal process for existing grants, including maintaining an accurate 
    renewals calendar and liaising with foundation staff.
  • Provide research on new prospects and develop appropriate strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
  • Organize compelling funder updates and coordinate the participation of program staff in other funder events, such as affinity group meetings.
  • Provide task and management support to UWDC fundraisers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in the organization’s grants database on prospective and awarded grants.
  • Participate in UWDC collective impact leadership teams (mental health, housing & 
    homelessness, and workforce success) to better understand grant proposal opportunities.
  • Provide support for other development team functions, such as event planning and 
    individual giving programs.
  • Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, and coordination as needed.
  • Increase overall funds and diversification of funds raised through grant writing.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  •  Demonstrated fundraising knowledge and experience through grant research and proposal development for local, state, federal and foundation sectors grant proposals, preferred.
  • Experience working collaboratively to develop grant proposals for teams and coordinated collective impact multifaceted projects, required.
  • Experience developing grant proposals for nonprofit programs and services, preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including superior writing, copy editing and proofreading ability, required.
  • High level of independent working ability and initiative, and ability to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure using meticulous organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects, and follow through on detail with high-level accuracy, required.
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office tools required.
  • Flexibility to work well in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Familiarity with donor database software, Andar360 for example, a plus.
  • Proven ability to raise funds working collaboratively with cross-sector teams comprised of staff and community leaders, preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative and be creative in thinking and solutions generation.
