Our second annual #UWDCDayOfAction was a great success!

To improve lives in Denton County by improving literacy in Denton County, we rallied volunteers to build Tiny Libraries! Reading is a critical skill for students in our community - a student's reading level at 3rd grade strongly predicts their future success in school. Literacy is a crucial, basic skill for job-seekers in Denton County as well.

On the beautiful Saturday morning of September 12, 2015, more than 160 volunteers brought their hands and their hammers to our office. Building 26 Tiny Libraries and sorting hundreds of donated books for placement, our community pulled together to make a real difference!

More volunteers visited other non-profits like Giving HOPE, Inc. and The Salvation Army's Denton Shelter, where they completed projects to help our partner agencies provide better services to our community!

Thank you to organizations like Covenant Church Crossroads, Sally Beauty Company, Target Distribution Center, Texas Woman's University and the University of North Texas whose great volunteers donated their Saturday morning to improving lives. Thank you as well to Frenchy's Lawn & Tree Service, James Wood Autopark, Links Construction and volunteers from Robson Ranch for donating materials, food and carpentry services to help us put on our #UWDCDayOfAction!

Check out a video of the day's events and visit our Facebook photo album to see awesome volunteers and the fruits of our collective labor.
