Local Women Unite to Collect Purses with a Purpose for Single Moms

Women UNITED, an initiative of United Way of Denton County, seeks women to join efforts to create positive change for women and children in Denton County

March is the month to celebrate the power of women. Local women harnessed their collective power with local businesses to collect Purses with a Purpose for single momsPurses with a Purpose logo experiencing housing insecurity in Denton County. This was the third consecutive year Women UNITED held this philanthropic project.

Over 60 bags were collected and stuffed with items to help these mothers with everyday needs such as clothing, food, and toiletries, as well as fun activities for the kids to enjoy over spring break.

The collected bags were distributed to single moms identified by the collaborative work of United Way of Denton County’s Housing and Homelessness team at Denton County Friends of the Family. These single mothers represent a large segment of the Denton County population called ALICE – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. Learn more about ALICE.
