DENTON, TX (July 26, 2018) – Ten Denton ISD students participating in the Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program continued to develop their real-world job skills at the Leadership Symposium hosted by NCTC, United Way of Denton County, and Denton Mayor Chris Watts.

The Symposium included five 45-minute informational sessions with topics such as budgeting, preparing for college, identifying your strengths, professional self-care, and financial literacy. During lunch the students gathered with Mayor Watts for a Q&A discussion on professionalism and leadership. Each student intern received a certificate of completion at the end of the day.

Created in 2015, the Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs Program matches Denton ISD high school students and recent high school graduates, ages 15-21, with eight-week, paid, summer employment, providing them the opportunity to earn valuable work experience while also acquainting them with important skills like interviewing, professionalism, and financial responsibility. This program is made possible through a collaboration between the City of Denton, the Denton Chamber of Commerce, Denton ISD, United Way of Denton County and local businesses.
