People Helping People Golf Tournament Celebrates 20 Years of Support for United Way of Denton Co.

Denton, Texas (June 8, 2010): The “People Helping People” Golf Tournament will celebrate 20 years on the links in support of United Way of Denton County and its mission to advance the common good in our community. The annual tournament will be held on Monday, June 28th at Denton Country Club. Registration begins at 11a.m., with a shotgun start at noon.
“The number one reason this tournament is special is because it’s for a great cause,” said Denny Aldridge, Executive Manager at James Wood Autopark and United Way golf tournament co-chair. “The money we raise goes to United Way and the programs it supports. The number two reason this tournament is great is having it at Denton Country Club. It’s a fantastic, well-groomed facility.”
The tournament field is limited to the first 128 players, with entry fees beginning at $150 for individual players, $325 for a hole sponsorship with one player, $600 for a team of four and $775 for a hole sponsorship with a team of four. Entry fees include lunch, beverages, the 19th Hole Celebration following play and a chance to win over $2,500 in prizes.
Golfers can compete for team and individual prizes in both men’s and women’s divisions, including longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin.
“Obviously there’s a little bit of competition involved, but there’s also plenty of time to mix and mingle with your friends and your competitors, network, and just have fun,” Aldridge said.
The tournament is made possible again this year through the support of Denton area car dealers. This year’s sponsors include James Wood Autopark, Classic of Denton, Bill Utter Ford, Jim McNatt Auto Group, Huffines Auto and Orr Nissan.
“This is the 20th year for the tournament and I think every bit of its success goes back to the cause,” Aldridge said. “Year in and year out, in good times and in bad, the car dealers have seen the necessity to keep this thing going because of the good work of United Way.”
Proceeds from the People Helping People Golf Tournament support United Way of Denton County’s focused initiatives to fund improvement in the areas of education, income and health – the building blocks for a good quality of life.
