United Way Partners with Sports Illustrated Kids to Recognize Exceptional Kid Athletes
Denton, Texas (August 10, 2009) United Way of America and Sports Illustrated Kids have partnered to identify and commend young people who exemplify superior sportsmanship, academic excellence, and civic engagement. For the next six weeks, kids can be nominated for the SKOTY (Sports Kid of the Year) Award which is based on the child’s athletic performance, academic records, and community involvement.
To nominate your Sports Kid of the Year, log on to www.sikids.com/unitedway and complete the nomination form.
United Way and Sports Illustrated recognize the important role of sports in a child’s development -- on and off the field of play. This acknowledgement and commitment to education, community and sportsmanship is a testament to the fact that we all -- no matter our age -- have a responsibility to inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. In other words, to LIVE UNITED.
The nomination period runs for approximately six weeks, after which time the top ten candidates will be revealed. The nationwide voting process begins September 26 and runs through October 14. The winner will be notified by November 3 and featured on the cover of the December 2009 issue of SI kids. The winner will also participate in the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year VIP events, activities and appearances and receive a customized varsity jacket.
