Appletree Project
“Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.” – John F. Kennedy
The Denton Independent School District (DISD) estimates that for the current school year 39% or over 8,200 of the children enrolled live in poverty (according to Federal Poverty Guidelines). Providing these children with back-to-school essentials places additional financial hardship on their families.
Headed by Interfaith Ministries, the Apple Tree Project strives to provide each child participating with a complete set of school supplies, a backpack, two new sets of school clothes and a new pair of shoes. In fact, the Apple Tree Project makes an annual estimated economic impact of over $100,000 in the Denton community.
United Way of Denton County (UWDC) partners with Interfaith Ministries, the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club and others to provide this service to children and their families in the Denton community. In addition, UWDC provides information to participating families on other types of assistance available to them in Denton County such as housing, food, and health resources.
How You Can Help:
Donate – Make a tax-deductible contribution to provide shoes, clothes, school supplies and backpacks.
Host – Host an Apple Tree at your church or business so staff and clients can “adopt” children.
Adopt – Adopt/sponsor a child (represented as an “Apple”) from an Apple Tree Host in the community.
