The Denton Hunger Coalition will hold its monthly meeting in the United Way of Denton County office.

Dear Denton Hunger Coalition Member and guests:


The next meeting will be July 9 @ 10:00 am

at 1314 Teasley Ln, Denton, TX 76205 United Way of Denton County


Meeting will focus on:

  • Logistics for the Summer Harvest Community Festival which will take place on Saturday, July 18, from 9-11 am at Serve Denton
  • Community Resource Fair – sign-up to be a community vendor
  • Volunteers – TWU nutrition students, 4-H, THR employees ---need others

 

Details:

  • This event will not cost the coalition, agencies or participants anything except our effort to promote it, and plenty of volunteers.
  • The target population for this event is “those in need”. Our seniors, homeless, less fortunate or those who have trouble accessing fresh produce.
  • Please help us promote it to your clients and those you feel have the greatest need. We would like to see these folks be the ones who benefit from this event.
  • The TAFB will deliver fresh produce that will distribute to the citizens of Denton County.
  • We need to promote aggressively to get people to show up. We are hoping that we can deliver 400 Denton residents or maybe more.

 Summer Harvest Community Festival

One time mobile pantry to gauge interest in starting several Mobile Pantry deliveries once a month, Express Mobile Pantries and/or Senior Pantries.

Logistics:

  • We will need at least 20 tables for the two line distribution process – we have them from Frenchy’s – thanks Tom for arranging this
  • Tables and chairs for Community Resource Fair
  • TAFB is printing 600 flyers we will need to have agencies print at least 100 each or do mass email blasts to reach participants
  • Library Activities – Dana Tucker
  • Cheerleaders – Possible group of young lady cheerleaders
  • Aunt Bertha info- flyers – Marc Thompson, Serve Denton
  • Community Resource Fair - agencies to provide information on services and resources – please sign up (see attached info)
  • Volunteers to serve as stockers, runners and general assistance - Possible commitment from
  • Commitment from TWU nutrition students
  • Commitment from 4-H youth
  • Possible commitment from THR staff
  • Stockers: - stack tables with produce and dispose of empty boxes or make them available to participants
  • Runners:- assist participants with carrying their produce to their cars
  • Crowd control:- direct people to where to line up, proceed in line
  • Recipes for distribution to help show people how to cook produce
  • Appearances by Jianna, Master Chef Jr. contestant and Summer Sadiyeh, Miss Texas 2015
  • Maybe appearance from UNT mascot, teams, coaches, TWU, police, firemen, etc.
  • Water? Ice? – donations?  -
