In addition to its traditional role of workplace campaigns, United Way of Denton County is also contracted to run the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC).
SECC relies on the expertise of United Way staff to run effective campaigns, but has separate eligibility processes, volunteers, trainings, reporting processes, campaign period, and events. SECC campaigns are designation-driven, and United Way of Denton County is only one of many participating federations and charities that can receive donations from public sector employees.
The State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC) is the only authorized workplace solicitation for higher education and state employees throughout Texas, which features the benefit of payroll deduction.
Since the SECC's inception in 1993, United Way of Denton County has been contracted to run the Denton Area SECC, which solicits over 8,000 higher education and state employees in Cooke, Denton, Fannin, Grayson and Montague counties.
The Local Employee Committee, made up of local state and higher education employees, provides campaign management and oversight.
In 2008, the Denton Area SECC raised over $327,000 for more than 400 charities statewide, while over $9.7 million was raised through the state of Texas. The campaign begins September 1st and runs through October 31st annually.
